Walters Medals in Two Events, Team Sits in Fifth Through Day One of Landmark Outdoor Champs

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.- The Juniata men's track and field team opened up Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on a rainy Saturday, as Barrett Walters earned medals in two events, and the team ended day one in fifth place in the points.

Walters earned second place in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.79 meters, his second straight medal in the event at Conference Championships, and his third straight medal at Landmarks with a second-place mark of 47.35 meters in the javelin throw.

Colson Lewis qualified for the finals of both the 100 meters and 200 meters, maintaining his strong form this season. He was second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.97, while a time of 22.63 put him third overall to earn a spot in Sunday's final. Isaiah Huffstutler also raced in the 100 meters, earning 21st with a time of 11.71.

Caleb Massare competed in the long jump and finished in 12th place with a mark of 5.83 meters.

Max Scott and Ellis Kline both raced in the 10,000 meters. Scott's first collegiate 10K time put him 14th in the event with a time of 35:10.08, while Kline set a PR with a time of 35:39.09 for 17th place. His previous best time was 36:58.06, set at last year's Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Moravian.

Poor conditions kept Sean Buckley and Gavin Robb from competing in the postponed pole vault, with the hope that conditions are suitable enough on Sunday.

Juniata ended the day in fifth place out of eight teams competing, with a score of 14, thanks to Walter's two silver medals.

The men's team is slated to compete in eight events on Sunday to conclude Landmark Conference Championships.
