HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Day 1 of the Landmark Track & Field Championships is in the books, with Juniata athletes competing in a number of events throughout the day. Juniata also serves as hosts for this year's meet, with the action concluding on Sunday, May 8th.

The day started strong for the Juniata men, with Barrett Walters (Mifflintown, Pa. / Juniata) claiming 1st place and a gold medal in the Javelin Throw. His best distance of 52.33m had him well clear of the competition, beating out 2nd place by 6.30m. His teammate Brenden Nauman (Myerstown, Pa. / ELCO) also claimed a points finish, slotting in 8th with his distance of 39.17m. Walters would then return to action later in the day, competing in the Discus Throw. His best mark of 37.32m earned him 8th place and another point for Juniata's total.

Turning to the track, Andrew Donlan (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) and Zion Gomez (Chesapeake, Va. / Grassfield) began the day in the 100 Meter Trials, placing 11th and 13th respectively but ultimately missing out on qualification for Sunday's final. Donlan clocked in at 11.94 seconds while Gomez finished at 12.09. They both returned to the track for the 200 Meter Trials, where Donlan would again finish in 11th, clocking in at 23.60 seconds. Gomez finished 23rd at 25.06 seconds, and both were again knocked out of contention for the final race. The Eagles finished out the day represented by Ellis Kline (Corvallis, Ore. / Corvallis) in the 10,000 Meter Run. He placed 14th with his time of 37:17.97.
