Walters Earns Podium On Final Day at Messiah Invite

MECHANICSBURG, Pa.- The Messiah Invitational concluded today with athletes from the men's and women's track and field teams of Juniata competing throughout the day.

Nandee Correia (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg) threw in two events for the women, beginning with an 11th place in the Hammer Throw after throwing 35.15m. She would then claim 6th place in the Shot Put, with her best mark being 10.78m. Rebecca Christophel (Three Springs, Pa. / Southern Huntingdon) would be the sole runner of the day for the Eagle women, competing in three different events. She began with a 38th place in the 100 Meters, clocking in at 13.86 seconds. She next ran in the 800 Meters where she earned 30th place with a time of 2:33.48. Her final event of the day would be the 200 Meters, in which she placed 41st while finishing with a time of 28.93 seconds. The women's team finish 20th overall in the meet with 7 points total.

The men had two throwers on the day, with Brenden Nauman (Myerstown, Pa. / ELCO) and Barrett Walters (Mifflintown, Pa. / Juniata) each throwing both the Hammer and the Javelin. The two were neck and neck in the Hammer Throw, with Nauman claiming 15th place and Walters in 16th with only .01m separating them. Nauman achieved a distance of 36.74m while Walters had 36.73m. The two were similarly competitive in the Javelin, but the junior Nauman again beat out his sophomore teammate Walters. Nauman earned a spot on the podium with a 3rd place finish, throwing 51.72m. Walters would claim 5th with his best distance being 50.46m.

On the track, Zion Gomez (Chesapeake, Va. / Grassfield) earned 44th place in the 100 Meters with a time of 11.95 seconds, while teammate Wyatt Ledeboer (Orefield, Pa. / Northwestern Lehigh) was close behind in 46th with his time of 11.99 seconds. Gomez also ran in the 200 Meters, finishing 52nd with a time of 24.91 seconds. Senior Thomas Cope (Fogelsville, Pa. / Allentown Central Catholic) represented the Eagle men in the 800 Meters, placing 60th with his time of 2:24.79. He also finished 65th in the 1500 Meters, clocking in at 4:53.25. The men's team earned 18th overall with 10 total points.

The two teams will return to action on April 15th, heading to Moravian to compete in the Greyhound Invitational. The day will begin at 10:00 AM.
