Eagles Sweep Hood to Continue Strong Start

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Juniata's men's tennis team dominated enroute to a 9-0 victory over Hood College on Tuesday afternoon. The result moves them to 8-2 on the season.

The day began with a point immediately in the Eagles' favor, as Utsav Dhir Deravariya (India) and Ezenna Emuka (Houston, Texas / William B. Travis) won the third doubles by default. Nate Whelan (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J. / Point Pleasant Beach) and Keisuke Maeda (Tokyo, Japan) would then cruise to an 8-1 victory in second doubles. First doubles saw Will Michelson (Old Mystic, Conn. / Stonington) and Seth Strawser (Richfield, Pa. / East Juniata) win an 8-6 thriller.

Juniata's momentum continued into the singles play, with Emuka winning the fifth singles matchup 6-0, 6-0, while Whelan followed shortly after with his own 6-0, 6-0 win in the fourth singles match. Ilia Buralkin (Moscow, Russia) would then win the first singles 6-1, 6-1. Strawser won third singles 6-0, 6-0, and Michelson won second singles 6-1, 6-0. Deravariya would take the sixth singles match by default, giving the Eagles their 9-0 victory.

Juniata will return to action at home on Saturday, taking on Catholic in their Landmark Conference opener, beginning at 1:00 PM.
