SCRANTON, Pa.- The Juniata men's tennis team picked up their first victory of the season as they eased past Marywood, 8-1, Sunday afternoon.
Keisuke Maeda (Tokyo, Japan / Nihon University) and Nate Whelan (Point Pleasant Beach, NJ / Point Pleasant Beach High School) got an 8-4 win at number two doubles while Andres Lopez Baceiredo (Seville, Spain) and Ezenna Emuka (Houston, Texas / William B. Travis High School) also won 8-4 at third doubles as the Eagles led 2-1 following doubles play.
Juniata turned it on from there, sweeping singles as William Michelson (Old Mystic, Conn. / Stonington) won 6-2, 6-1 at first singles, Robert Singer (Olney, Md. / Sherwood HS) won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles and Maeda won 0-6, 7-5, 6-1 at third singles. Emuka won 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles, Whelan got the victory at fifth 6-1, 6-1 while Baceiredo won without dropping a game at six singles, 6-0, 6-0.
The Juniata men's tennis team returns to action at Albright, Saturday at 1:00.
