Juniata and Goucher Men’s Tennis Teams To Decide Landmark Championship

HUNTINGDON, PA-  It all comes down to one final match. One match to decide it all. For the second straight year, there will be a new men's tennis champion in the Landmark Conference.

This is the second straight conference championship appearance for the Juniata men's tennis team. Last year, the Eagles battled with Catholic for the crown but the Cardinals came away the victors with a 5-4 win.

Juniata dispatched Merchant Marine Academy in their semifinal match on Tuesday, 5-0. While the Eagles took all three of the doubles matches, they only needed to win two in singles play to advance. Bryan Gregory won his 12th in a row with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jeremy Guettlein. Matyas Kohout was ahead 5-3 in the first set against James Hicks but Hicks had to retire due to an injury, which gave the win to Kohout.

Goucher defeated Moravian 5-1 in the other semifinal match. The Gophers led 2-1 after doubles play but the Greyhounds would take the first set in the first four singles matches. After trailing 4-6, Jack Hodges recovered to win set two 6-1 and set three 6-3 at third singles. Josh Goldberg and Britt Shortles' win at fifth and sixth singles were enough to give Goucher the win.

The Eagles and Gophers last played on April 18 at Raffensberger Court. Juniata claimed all three doubles matches and four of the six singles flights to win 7-2.
