Landmark Announces Spring All-Academic Team

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Four Eagles have earned Landmark Conference All-Academic Team honors, the league announced Tuesday.  Seniors Brice Morey (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) with junior Elliott Perow (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) and sophomore Heather Waring (San Antonio, Texas/John Jay) were named the top two male and female student-athletes who excelled in the classroom and in their respective sports this spring for Juniata.

The league recognizes the top student-athletes of each respective member institution who hold sophomore status or higher and maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA).  This foursome combined for six all-conference honors, four postseason appearances and averaged over a 3.6 GPA.

Morey and Perow helped lead the men's tennis team to a record tying season in wins and the programs first Landmark Conference Tournament appearance since 2009.  This is the second time this year a program has swept All-Academic Team honors for Juniata on the men's side.  Men's basketball took the winter honors.

Morey was named Juniata's 2013 John E. Blood Memorial Award winner for having the highest GPA combined with significant athletic achievement.  He earned second-team all-conference in singles and doubles.  Morey finished with a team-best 19-3 singles record and went 16-7 in doubles with winning records at both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.  He ended the year 7-1 in conference matches playing out of the No. 2-4 positions.  Named the team's most valuable player (MVP), this is the second time he has garnered the award.

Perow grabbed second-team all-conference honors in singles after going 4-3 in the league.  He finished 8-5 overall at the No. 2 singles position and went 6-3 in singles play during his last nine matches.

Named team MVP, Shaffer was also the 2013 Women's Indoor Track and Field Senior Scholar-Athlete and named to the Winter All-Academic Team.  She received the Charles Bargerstock Award for making the greatest contribution of all female senior student-athletes to Juniata Athletics over her career.  Shaffer won the 2013 Landmark outdoor high jump and 100m hurdle titles and the heptathlon at Messiah's Invitational. This is the third time she has earned this honor in her career.

Waring helped lead the women's team to its record tying season in wins and first Landmark Tournament appearance since 2009. She earned first-team all-conference honors in doubles after going 5-1 at the No. 1 position against Landmark opponents.  She finished 13-9 overall in doubles and went 5-5 at No. 1 singles in her final 10 matches.
