Morey Named Landmark Player of the Week

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – For the second time this season, the Juniata College men's tennis team saw an Eagle be recognized by the conference.  Senior Brice Morey (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) was named Landmark Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

"Brice has been playing exceptionally well recently," said head coach Jason Cohen.  "To have someone at a spot that we consider a lock to win takes a ton of pressure off the rest of the team."

Morey went undefeated last week.  He earned three wins in the No. 4 singles position, extending his streak to eight.  He also picked up four doubles wins with partner Justin Wisniewski (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.  Wisniewski earned player of the week honors back on March 19.  The pair have won five doubles matches in-a-row.  Morey currently leads the team with a 14-2 overall record.

"The fact that we have had two players of the week speaks to the players work ethics and ability to change," noted Cohen.  "Both Brice and Justin have had good results in college previously, but I challenged them to improve.  Both guys have stuck with it and are now seeing the benefits of being more well-rounded on the court."

Before this season, Juniata had not had a men's tennis player of the week since Jarrad Silver in 2009.  There have only been four recognized all-time.

Juniata prepares to hit the road again to take on conference opponents.  They face Susquehanna on Tuesday, April 9 and Moravian on Saturday, April 13.
