Owings Mill, Md. – Coming off an impressive 9-0 win over the Goucher Gophers, the Juniata College Men's tennis team earned another win Saturday against the Stevenson Mustangs before coming up short against the Salisbury Seagulls in the second match of the doubleheader.
Up against the Mustangs, the Eagles were strong in doubles play and fell just short of another sweep, winning 6-3. Freshman Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, Pa. / Garnet Valley) was impressive in the No. 1 position, winning 7-5, 6-4, and pairing with junior Elliot Perow (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) to earn an 8-5 win in doubles play. Gregory's fellow freshman, Mike Lifshitz (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Academy) also played well, earning a victory in straight sets in singles play, and pairing with senior Tucker Good (Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg Area) to earn an 8-3 win.
Against the Seagulls, the Eagles were not able to earn a sweep of the doubleheader. Although they fought hard, Juniata dropped the second match by a score of 8-1. Each contest in singles play was close, and Morey earned a 6-2, 6-4 win, but the Eagles struggled in doubles competition and ended up falling. With the split of the doubleheader Juniata moves to 6-4 in the 2012-2013 season.
The Eagles will now travel to face the Green Terror of McDaniel in their next match on Friday, April 5th, at 3:00 PM.
