HILTON HEAD, S.C. – After a great start, the Juniata men's tennis team closed its spring break trip against tough competition and saw individuals rise to the occasion. Juniata defeated Heidelberg University 7-2, but fell to Mount Union (6-3) and Messiah (5-2).
Junior Justin Wisniewski (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) went undefeated in the three matches. Partnered with senior Brice Morey (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro), the duo went 3-0 in No. 2 doubles. Wisniewski won in the No. 2 singles spot against Messiah, then moved up and defeated the No. 1 singles players of Mount Union and Heidelberg. These were his first two matches in the No. 1 spot. He is now 6-0 in singles this season.
Morey also had a good showing at the beach. He went 2-1 at the No. 4 position. His lone loss came when he fell in a battle with Mount Union's Ren Swope (6-4, 4-6, 11-9).
Juniata prepares to open its home and Landmark Conference season on Sunday, March 17 against Scranton at 1 p.m. The Royals handed Juniata their first league loss last year. Scranton fell to Drew in the conference championship in 2012.
