Juniata men’s tennis picked to finish fifth in Landmark preseason poll

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College men's tennis was selected by Landmark head coaches and sports information directors to finish the 2012 season fifth in the Landmark Conference, according to the preseason poll released Tuesday. Juniata clinched 51 points in the voting, a mere five points behind No. 4 Moravian College.

However, it was the Rangers of Drew University that were picked as the consensus favorite, being the four-time Landmark defending champions. Finishing 11 points behind Drew was No. 2 University of Scranton, earning 78 points in the ballot. The Catholic University of America, a 2011 postseason team, earned 71 points to land the No. 3 slot.

After finishing above .500 in the 2011 season, Susquehanna University was voted as the No. 6 pick, earning 34 points, while Goucher College follows in the No. 7 slot with 27 points. United States Merchant Marine Academy rounds out the poll with 14 points.
The Eagles missed postseason play by one game last season, but with fresh direction from new Head Coach Jason Cohen, they hope to push past .500 in 2012. Juniata welcomes back six returning players, led by junior All-Conference player Brice Morey (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro). The Eagles finished the 2011 campaign with an 8-9 overall record and a 3-4 league finish.
The Eagles will open their 2012 campaign in Hilton Head, S.C. versus Elizabethtown College on Sunday, March 4 at 3:00 p.m.
