Riverhawks Cruise Past Eagles

Riverhawks Cruise Past Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata men's lacrosse team fell to the visiting Susquehanna 16-6 Wednesday evening at Gibbel Stadium.

Aiden Duran put three goals away while Charlie Newman added two, and Jonathan Montoya scored a single goal for the Eagles. Kolton Black totaled two assists, while Beaux Wojciechowski added one.

The Riverhawks scored three goals to start the first quarter of the game before the Eagles could answer back. With less than six minutes to go in the quarter, Wojciechowski connected with Duran, who turned and fired on in the net. Susquehanna found two more goals and headed into the second quarter up 5-1.

Susquehanna started the second just like the first, with three goals before Juniata could find the back of the net. With less than four minutes to go, Montoya received the ball, drew his defender in and cut to the right side, and found the bottom left corner of the goal to tack on their second goal of the day. Duran found himself with possession behind the goal and worked himself around and beat two defenders to score his second and cut the deficit to five goals. The Riverhawks score two more goals before halftime to make the score 10-3.

The Riverhawks found two goals to start the third quarter. Black found Newman right next to the goal before Newman ripped one into the opposite corner of the goal for his first of the day. Susquehanna put three more away in the third.

Duran started off the fourth quarter for the Eagles with an unassisted goal, wrapping around the crease and shooting the ball over his defender. The score stayed at 15-5 for over ten minutes before Newman scored his second. Black found Newman again, this time from behind the goal for Newman to receive and shoot in one swift motion. The Riverhawks scored once more before time ran out.

Black and Matt McCleary picked up three ground balls each as A. John DeFruscio, Max Dominikoski, and Heath Gamarel added two each. Justin Toney had 24 saves on the day.

The Eagles host Elizabethtown Saturday, April 15, for a 1:00 pm start.
