Juniata Falls 62-53 on the Road to No. 11 Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Juniata men's basketball dropped to 13-7 overall (5-4 Landmark) on Wednesday night after falling to No. 11 Catholic University 62-53 on the road.  Juniors Brian Scholly (State College, Pa./State College) and Kevin Stapleton (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) accounted for half the Eagles points.

 

Stapleton finished with a team-high 15 points, 13 of which were scored in the second half.  Scholly picked up 12 points, respectively, and led the team with six rebounds.

 

The Eagles trailed by 16 at the half, and gradually chipped away at Catholic's lead until back-to-back three's had them down by six (53-47) with 4:26 to play.

 

Stapleton put in a layup at 3:24 to get Juniata within four (53-49), but the Cardinals began to pull away again and held onto their lead for the win.

 

Catholic (18-2, 8-1 Landmark) was led by Shawn Holmes who finished with a game-high 16 points.

 

Juniata returns home this Saturday, Feb. 2 for a double-header with the women's team against Moravian College.  The women play at 5 p.m. with the men following at 7 p.m.  Moravian handed the Eagles their first loss of the season back on Dec. 1.  Juniata dropped the 69-55 decision, snapping a five-game win streak.  The Eagles are 25-34 all-time against Moravian.
