Late Push Sends Juniata Over Goucher 60-54

TOWSON, Md. – An 11-2 run in the final minutes helped propel the Juniata men's basketball team to a 60-54 win over Goucher College Wednesday night on the road.  Juniata improved to 11-5 (3-2 Landmark) with the win.

Every starter hit double-digits in the Eagles victory.  Junior Brian Scholly (State College, Pa./State College) led Juniata with a team-high 13 points and game-high 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.  Senior Nate Higgins (St. Mary's Pa./Elk County Catholic) had 12 points and junior Kevin Stapleton (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) earned 11, respectively.

Both senior Alex Raymond (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Altoona) and junior Jeremy Hays (McMechen, W. Va./John Marshall) had with 10 points each.  Hays finished with a game-high seven assists along with a game and career-high six steals.

Juniata had a 10-point lead (30-20) at the half, but Goucher dwindled it down and eventually took its largest lead of the night (46-39) with 9:30 to play.  Juniata fought back and pulled within two on a tip-in by Scholly with 6:04 on the clock.

The Eagles then went on an 11-2 run to take the lead 58-50 with just over a minute remaining.  The programs exchanged baskets down the stretch and Juniata held on for the win.

Goucher (5-10, 3-2 Landmark) was led by Richard Harris who finished with a game-high 15 points.

Juniata returns home this Saturday, Jan. 19 in a double-header with the women's team against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA).  The Eagles are 3-7 all-time against USMMA since the programs began competing in the 2007-08 season.  Juniata split competition with USMMA last year, but have won two straight at home against the Mariners.
