Eagles Down Saint Vincent 74-70, Improve to 8-2

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata men's basketball team held on for a 74-70 win on the road over Saint Vincent Sunday afternoon.  Four of the Eagles five starters finished in double-digits as they improved to 8-2 on the year.  Saint Vincent fell to 7-3 with the loss.

 

Juniata was led by junior Brian Scholly (State College, Pa./State College) who finished with a team-high 19 points after going 6-for-7 from the 3-point line.  He also grabbed a game and career-high three blocks in the win.  Junior Kevin Stapleton (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) earned his first double-double of the year. The guard picked up 14 points and a game and career-high 11 rebounds.  He also finished with three assists and one steal.

 

Junior Jeremy Hays (McMechen, W. Va./John Marshall) and senior Alex Raymond (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Altoona) finished with 16 and 15 points respectively.  Hays had a game-high five assists.

 

The Eagles led by as much as 15 points in the second half and were up by nine with less than 20 seconds to play.  Saint Vincent's Chris Klimchock then hit two three's in nine seconds but Juniata held on for the win.  Klimchock led the Bearcats with a game-high 28 points going 6-for-8 from the 3-point line.

 

Juniata takes a short break for the holiday before returning to action at the St. Johns Fisher Holiday Tournament.  The Eagles meet Clarkson on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 6 p.m. before taking on St. Johns Fisher or Baruch on Sunday, Dec. 30 at either 2pm or 4pm.  Juniata has never met any of the teams at the tournament before.  The Eagles will be looking to head into the new year 10 wins under their belt.
