Juniata Pulls Out 76-70 Overtime Win At Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Juniata men's basketball continued its win streak after pulling out a 76-70 overtime win at Carnegie Mellon Tuesday night.  The Eagles went 12-for-14 from the free throw and shot 60-percent from the floor in overtime to pull out their fifth straight win and start the season 5-0 for the second year in a row.

 

Junior Kevin Stapleton (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) tied a career-high with a game-high 24 points.  He went 9-for-9 at the charity stripe to set a career-high in free throws.  Fellow junior Jeremy Hays (McMechen, W. Va./John Marshall) shot 82-percent from the field to break the 20 point mark as well.  He finished with 21 points and team-high nine rebounds to go with his team-high three steals.

 

Also finishing in double-digits was junior Brian Scholly (State College, Pa./State).  He ended the night with 15 points.

 

Carnegie Mellon (1-5) had three players in double-digits.  The Tartans were led by Matt Loebbaka and Andre Moore who each finished with 12 points each, respectively.

 

Juniata stays on the road and opens its Landmark Conference slate at Moravian this Saturday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m. in a double-header with the women.  The Eagles are 25-33 all-time against Moravian in a rivalry that has been going since the 1922-23 season.  Juniata has had recent success against the Greyhounds going 7-3 in the past five years, 3-2 on the road.  They have won two straight in Moravian's gym after pulling out the 65-50 win last season.
