Five Eagles Hit Double-Digits in 80-62 Win Over Mount Aloysius

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – All five of the Juniata men's basketball team's starters hit double-digits in points as the Eagles cruised to a 80-62 win over Mount Aloysius Saturday afternoon to take the 2012 Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament title. Junior Brian Scholly (State College, Pa./State College) was named the tournament most valuable player.  He finished with 16 points, having shot 60-percent from the floor.

"When you host your own tournament, you want to walk away winning it," said Head Coach Greg Curley.  "Anytime you can win a championship it's a great experience and something that we want to build on."

Junior Lucas Mellott (Wardfordsburg, Pa./Southern Fulton) earned his first collegiate double-double in the win with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Alex Raymond led all scorers with 19 points.  He shot 3-for-6 from 3-point range and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line.

Other Eagles in double-figures were juniors Kevin Stapleton (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) and Jeremy Hays (McMechen, W. Va./John Marshall). Stapleton and Hays earned 10 points each, respectively.  Hays also finished with five assists and four steals.

The five starters combined for 67 points, 25 rebounds, 13 assists and nine steals.

"I think if we are looking at anything throughout the year, it's balance and the five guys all have to contribute," said Curley.  "I thought we did a really nice job of that tonight."

The Eagles stay home for their next game.  They take on Washington & Jefferson this Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.  The programs have been competing since the 1914-15 season.  Juniata leads the all-time series 17-15.  They defeated the Presidents 74-66 when they met last year.
