Cannon and Opitz earn Second team All-Landmark honors

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College seniors Brian Cannon (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Kyle Opitz (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) were selected to the All-Landmark Conference Second Team, when the league's all-conference selections were announced Wednesday.

Cannon was second in the Landmark Conference in scoring and fifth in rebounding, while leading the Eagles with 18.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.

He logged 23 double-digit scoring performances in 2007-08, with a season high 33 points in a 80-63 win over Westminster College. Cannon enters the Landmark Conference Men's Basketball Tournament with 457 points, ninth among Juniata's single-season scoring leaders, and he ranks fifth among Juniata's career points leaders with 1,327 points. Cannon also leads the Eagles in field goal percentage, shooting .490 from the floor this season.

Opitz was among the league's most prolific three-point shooters, ranking second in the Landmark in both three-point field goal percentage (.463) and three-point field goals made per game (2.48). He was second on the team in scoring with 14.7 points per game to go with 1.9 rebounds. Overall, he was a .452 shooter from the field. His 62 three-pointers this season puts him fourth among Juniata's single-season leaders, and he is six treys shy of cracking the top ten among Juniata's career three-point shooters as well.

The Eagles concluded their regular season with a 16-9 overall record, 9-5 in the Landmark Conference, and head into the tournament as the no. 4 seed. Juniata will face top-seeded Susquehanna University in a men's tournament semifinal match at 7:00 p.m. in Selinsgrove, Pa.
