Cardinals Edge Eagles in OT Thriller

Cardinals Edge Eagles in OT Thriller

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey dropped a tense overtime 3-2 decision to the visiting Catholic University of America on a windy Saturday afternoon at Goodman Field at Knox Stadium.

Six minutes into the contest, Brooke Franke crossed from the left side to Aimee Buffington in front of the goal. Buffington's first shot was stopped, but she put away the rebound, but the goal was disallowed.

In the 12th minute, Tess Ledeboar scored, and it counted this time, as she dribbled around the keeper and fired into an empty cage. The Cardinals scored on a penalty stroke under a minute later to lock the teams at 1-1.

Midway into the second quarter, Catholic took their first lead of the game as they scored nine minutes in.

The Cardinals led 2-1 at halftime, with the Eagles having three shots to the visitor's two.

In the 37th minute, Sierra Rossman passed in a penalty corner to Colleen Creneti, who lifted the ball over everyone and into the top right side of the cage to knot things at 2-2.

The Cardinals turned up the pressure, taking nine shots in the fourth quarter and the Eagles had to fight off four Cardinal penalty corners after the horn sounded to end regulation.

Catholic found a game-winner eight minutes into the extra frame, scoring on a cross from the right side that their forward tapped in.

Brittney McMullen tallied five saves in goal for the Eagles.

Juniata will travel to take on Susquehanna Wednesday at 7:00.
