Madara, Witter Power Eagles Past Warriors

Madara, Witter Power Eagles Past Warriors

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team put five past visiting Lycoming as they earned their first win of the year in style to the tune of 5-0 Wednesday evening at Knox stadium.

A little under nine minutes into the game, Miranda Madara knocked a ball out of the air from the left side of the goal and played it across the goal mouth. Sydney Witter got a stick to the ball and smacked it into the cage to make it 1-0.

Midway through the second quarter, Madara was first to a loose ball and slotted it past the Warrior keeper to double the Eagle lead.

Juniata went into the half holding a 2-0 lead and a 7-3 edge in shots.

Thirty-seven seconds into the third quarter, Witter played a ball to the right post, and Aimee Buffington was right there to touch it in before the Lycoming goalie could make a play on the ball as Juniata increased the lead to three.

Less than three minutes later, Witter bagged another assist, setting up Madara for her second goal of the game.

With five minutes to go in the third, Hannah Moore played a ball in off a corner, and Witter deflected it perfectly through the Lycoming defense for her second goal of the game.

Juniata did not find the back of the cage in the fourth.

Brittney McMullen made three saves to earn her first shutout of the season.

Madara's five points in the game and Witter's six were career highs, respectively. Six points is the most by an Eagle since 2019 when Olivia Marker netted a hattrick against DeSales.

Juniata returns to action this Saturday at Bridgewater with a game time of 4:30.
