Late Ignition by Pheonix Dooms Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team was back at Knox Stadium tonight to take on the Wilson College Pheonix. The Eagles fell short within the last minute of the game to mark a 2-1 loss on the night.

The first half of the game was a back and forth affair, but neither team could find a goal as it was 0-0 at the break.

Early in the third quarter, Wilson scored first, but Juniata answered back two minutes later. Tess Ledeboer (Orefield, Pa./ Northwestern Lehigh High School) handled a ball crossed by Aimee Buffington (Enola, Pa./ East Pennsboro Area High School) and Ledeboer sent a shot into the back of the cage to secure her first career goal.

The Eagles worked hard for the remainder of the game, but in the last minute, they got burned. Wilson was able to drive up the field and score a winner, 2-1.

The Eagles defense was led by Nicole Piccioni (Richfield, Pa./ Midd-West High School) with 11 saves. Isabella Stranick (Hanover, Pa./South Western High School) rounded out the team's defensive efforts with two saves.

The Eagles begin conference play this Saturday at home against Drew at 1:00.
