Eagles Push Past Royals in Overtime for Landmark Semifinal Win

SCRANTON, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team defeated Scranton, 2-1, in overtime in the Landmark semifinals on Wednesday evening.

Katie Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg) and Rebecca Waite (Landinberg, Pa. / Avon Grove) each tallied one goal for the Eagles, while Grace Kuszmaul (Moorestown, N.J. / Moorestown) totaled one assist during the game.

Scranton controlled most of the first half and scored in the 15th minute of the game from a tap in off of a cross. Juniata and Scranton only took one shot each in the first half. In the second half, Juniata got their momentum going and took control of the game. Ten minutes into the half, K. Alexander knocked in a loose ball on a scrum in front to score the Eagles first goal of the game. 

In overtime, the Eagles dominated by taking three shots, taking two penalty corners and eventually scoring the game winning goal. On the final play of overtime, the Eagles got an untimed penalty corner. Kuszmaul assisted Waite for the game-winning goal.

The Eagles held 9-2 edge in shots and an 8-6 edge in penalty corners.

The Eagles advance to the Landmark Championship, where they will play at Catholic, Saturday at 2:00.
