Juniata Field Hockey Falls 3-2 at Wesley

DOVER, Del. – Senior Caroline Phillips (Wilmington, Del./Concord) scored both of Juniata field hockey's goals in the Eagles 3-2 non-conference loss at Wesley College Sunday afternoon.  Phillips leads the team with seven goals this year.

Juniata (6-6) overcame offensive struggles but could not get the equalizer against the Wolverines who improved to 7-5 on the season.

"The game was filled with challenges and this time, even with a loss, I can say that we met those challenges as a team," said Head Coach Caroline Gillich.  "Our composure and passing game really emerged."

Phillips first goal came under three minutes into the game.  Wesley then took the lead, scoring two goals before halftime. The Wolverines put in their final goal in the 58th minute.

Down 3-1, Juniata spent the final minutes of play on the attack.

"We did a much better job of setting up chances in the last 25," said Gillich.

After a shot by junior Morgan Slovin (Hockessin, Del./Charter School) was saved in the 68th minute, the Eagles earned a penalty stroke that Phillips put away.  She is 2-for-2 in strokes this year.

Juniata ends its four-game road trip at Catholic on Saturday, Oct. 13.  The Eagles face their Landmark Conference rival at 1 p.m.
