Field hockey shutout by Blue Jays

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College field hockey couldn't get on the scoreboard and was shutout 1-0, by Elizabethtown College during the first competition ever to take place on Goodman Field at Knox Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Juniata took seven shots against Blue Jay goalie Lindy Hamp and made her record two saves. Both senior Caroline Phillips (Wilmington, Del./Concord) and junior Emma Dahmus (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) took three cracks at the Elizabethtown (3-0) cage. One of Phillip's shots, in the 65th minute, looked like it was headed into the cage, but the quick reactions of Blue Jay defenseman Samantha Earle kept the shutout alive.

Senior goalie Janelle Howard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) recorded three saves for Juniata (1-1) and Tori Buser (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) managed to stop a shot as the last line of defense for the Eagles in the ninth minute.

The Elizabethtown goal came in the 29th minute from Andrea Keady assisted by Nadine Yunginger.

Juniata travels to Misericordia for a weekend tournament beginning Friday, September 7, and will face Misericordia and King's (Pa.).
