Juniata field hockey falls to Frostburg State, 2-1 in double OT

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State's Brooke Tapman scored with 8:33 remaining in the second overtime period to lead the Bobcats past Juniata College, 2-1, in field hockey action Wednesday night in Frostburg, Md.

Juniata freshman Kelly O'Shea (Delran, N.J./Delran) scored her first collegiate goal with 6:03 remaining in regulation, tipping a shot by Erin Smith (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) following an Eagle penalty corner.

Neither team scored in the first half, with Frostburg State (8-2, 0-0 AMCC) breaking the deadlock with an unassisted goal by Michelle Frost barely six minutes into the first half.

Each team recorded nine shots on goal, while Juniata had a slight 9-7 advantage in penalty corners. Senior Abby Funk (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) logged three saves in the Juniata cage, while Frostburg goalie Samantha Foland also finished the night with three saves.

"We need to learn how to score," said Juniata head coach Caroline Gillich. "They (Frostburg) made good on the opportunities they had. What's frustrating is that a lot of things went right for us tonight, we just didn't win."

"I hope this gets us fired up for a win in our next game, which is a must-win game for us," said Gillich.

Juniata's (3-8, 1-0 Landmark) next game will be on Saturday, Oct. 4, when the Eagles travel to Washington, D.C., to face Landmark Conference-rival Catholic University. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
