Hunter English

Hunter English begins his first season as the defensive coordinator for the Juniata football team in 2023.

Coach English comes to Juniata from Lehigh University, where he worked with the defensive ends and the outside linebackers. He was responsible for the implementation and game-plan of scheme based on opponents' run/pass game. In his time, he helped develop the defense into one of the best in the Patriot League, which culminated in the defense ranking second in total sacks this past season. In addition to his on-field role, Coach English was the video coordinator, in charge of managing the daily filming of practice. He also assisted with special teams, including coordinating the punt block unit. The unit blocked five punts, the most in all of Division 1 FCS football.

Prior to his role as a position coach at Lehigh, Coach English served as the defensive quality control coach, where he helped with defensive game planning and preparation through film breakdown and compiling scouting reports.

Before his time at Lehigh, he spent four years at Guilford in a variety of roles: defensive coordinator, special teams coordinator, linebackers coach, and defensive backs coach. He also held the roles of academic coordinator and travel coordinator at various points.

Coach English was a four-year letter-winner at Guilford, graduating in 2015 with a BA in Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Sociology/Anthropology. During his time on the field for the Quakers, he was twice named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Conference team and was named team captain twice. He was also twice honored as the Iron Quaker, a team award given to the player who was the hardest worker in the offseason. During his four-year playing career, the team went from 2-8 to 9-1.
