Red Devils Ground Eagles

Red Devils Ground Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata football team couldn't keep pace in the second half as the visiting Dickinson Red Devils scored 21 unanswered in the second as the Eagles lost, 27-10, on a wet Saturday afternoon at Knox Stadium.

Dickinson started with the ball at their own 22 and got to around the 50 before the drive stalled out. They attempted to punt from the JC47, but Seth Bernstein (York, Pa. / William Penn Senior) managed to get this hands on the ball, and it only went nine yards, so the Eagles took over from their own 38.

Juniata couldn't get going, and the next Dickinson drive was plagued with fumbles, so they ended punting the ball back to JC.

Starting from their 30, JC handed the ball four straight times to Hunter Wolfley (McClure, Pa. / Midd-West HS), and he did the rest. He ran for four, eight, and six yards before he sprinted through a large hole on the right side, untouched for a 52-yard touchdown.

The teams exchanged more punts as they couldn't get much going in all the rain, with JC also not able to convert on fourth down on one drive before a Beckett Leary (Fulton, Md. / Reservoir HS) 39-yard field goal made it 10-0 with a little under eight minutes to go in the second.

The Eagle defense managed another stop, but then disaster struck for JC. The Red Devil punter kicked the ball to 13, and JC muffed it, with Dickinson managing to be first to the ball. Two plays later, they were in the endzone and proceeded to miss the PAT, as the JC lead was sliced to four.

Juniata led 10-6 at the half.

The Eagles opened the third again, doing damage with their rushing attack as Wolfley and Charles DeBose (Tonawanda, N.Y. / Cardinal O'Hara HS) helped JC get down to the Red Devil 40. JC went for it on fourth and eighth, but Jason Clark (Philadelphia, Pa. / Kensington CAPA HS) could not elude the pass rush and be sacked.

Dickinson only needed four plays to get into the red zone, but Nathan Barron's (Somerset, Pa. / Somerset Area Senior H.S.) interception ended the threat.

The Red Devils took control of the game from there, scoring on a 37-yard TD pass in the third to retake the lead. They added two more touchdowns in the fourth, one passing and one rushing, to cement their win.

Adam Grajewski (Export, Pa. / Franklin Regional) led the team in total tackles on the day with 10 and added a pass breakup. Noah Jacks-Waters (Chesapeake, Va. / Atlantic Shores Christian High School) had eight total tackles and one TFL, while Barron also had eight tackles, 1.5 TFls, and the interception.

Wolfley had another strong day on the ground, running for 136 yards on 20 carries with a TD, while Debose added 49 yards on 14 carries.

Juniata will take on Ursinus in Collegeville, Pa., next Saturday at 12:00.
