Blue Jays Take Two From Eagles

Blue Jays Take Two From Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team dropped the final two games of their Elizabethtown series, 11-3 and 12-1 in eight innings, Sunday afternoon at Langdon-Goodale Field.

Dakotah Snyder started game one on a good note, blasting a home run to left to put JC up 1-0. Michael Warren singled to left, and Corey Daniels was hit by a pitch. Zach Johnston salved the inning after two consecutive outs with a single to left, which scored Warren from second as JC led 2-0.

Derek Gehr continued to saw through the Etown lineup as he struck out the first batter. An error and a single to center had runners at first and third, but he struck out the next two batters to end the second. Through two innings of work, he had five strikeouts.

Elizabethtown started to figure some things out on their second time seeing Gehr, as they scored three runs in the third, two on an RBI double to left, and added another on a single to right.

A solo home run and a base-clearing double in the fifth pushed the deficit to five at 7-2.

Woodrow got one back for the Eagles in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single down the right field line that scored Daniels from second.

Elizabethtown methodically added to their lead the rest of the game, scoring one run in the sixth through the ninth to complete the scoring at 11-3.

Snyder was 1-5 with a home run, RBI, and a run scored, while Warren went 2-4 with a walk and a run scored. Daniels was 1-3 with a walk, two stolen bases, and a run scored. Woodrow was 2-4 with an RBI, while Caden Collins was 2-4 with a stolen base.

In game two, Etown got on the board first with an RBI double in the second and added runs in the third and fourth innings as they led 3-0 through four innings.

The Blue Jay offense exploded for five runs in the seventh, scoring five runs on four hits and a JC error. Hunter Thomas came in with runners at second and third with two outs and got the third out via strikeout to end the inning.

Warren plated the lone Eagle run of the game with a double to left center that scored Collins.

Three more Etown runs in the top of the eight meant JC had the bottom half of the inning to narrow the deficit, or the game ended due to the conference 10-run rule. The Eagles couldn't manufacture the runs, and the game ended 12-1 after eight.

Braelan Huber got the start and went 3.0 innings, allowing four hits, two runs, a walk, and striking out three. Ari Lonstein threw the next three, going 3.0 innings, allowing two hits, one run, a walk, and striking out four.

Juniata's next game is scheduled for Tuesday at Alvernia, with the first pitch at 3:30.
