Eagles Fall in High-Scoring Contest to Red Devils

Eagles Fall in High-Scoring Contest to Red Devils

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team fell behind early in a 21-10 defeat hosting Dickinson College on a chilly and windy Wednesday evening.

Three Eagles had multi-RBIs games, including Corey Daniels (3-for-3, 3 RBIs, 3 R, 1 2B, 1 BB), Joey Woodrow (1-for-2, 3 RBIs, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 BB), and Zach Johnston (2-for-3, 4 RBIs, 1 2B). Daniels also stole a pair of bases. Dakotah Snyder (2-for-4, 2 R, 1 BB) and Matthew Quigley (2-for-2) also contributed with multi-hit games.

Across the nine innings, the teams combined for 37 hits.

The Red Devils attacked Juniata pitching early, tagging the Eagles for one run in the first, three each in the second and third innings, and then four each in the fourth and fifth innings, which made it a 15-1 game heading into the bottom of the fifth. Dickinson put together 14 hits through that run, including a three-run home run in the second inning.

Juniata put their first on the board in the fourth inning, as Daniels had a one-out single and executed back-to-back steals. A Johnston sacrifice fly batted him in. The Eagles got back within five runs with a four-run fifth inning and a five-run sixth inning to make it 15-10.

In the fifth, Daniels took advantage of the bases loaded with one out as he doubled down the left field line to score two. Woodrow sacrificed a runner in, then Johnston singled to score Daniels from second.

Juniata struck for all five runs in the sixth with two outs following a Snyder single, Tyler Mack single, and Michael Warren being hit. Daniels walked the first run in, then Woodrow and Johnston strung together back-to-back doubles.

Dickinson again pulled away with a five-run eighth inning that saw them take advantage of two infield errors from the Eagles, three walks, one hit batter, and two hits. They capped the 21-10 scoreline with a solo homer in the ninth.

Juniata will host Landmark Conference Elizabethtown over the weekend, starting with a game on Friday and a doubleheader on Sunday. The first pitch on friday will be at 3:30.
