Baseball Adds Rob Saghy to Coaching Staff

Baseball Adds Rob Saghy to Coaching Staff

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Head Baseball Coach Pat Christopher names Rob Saghy Assistant Coach after spending two years as Graduate Assistant Coach at Ottawa University.

Rob Saghy is entering his first year as Assistant Coach of the Juniata College baseball team. He is responsible for Infield, Outfield, Hitting, and Baserunning instruction while also serving as the Recruiting Coordinator for the program.

While at Ottawa, Saghy would hold a wide range of responsibilities within the Ottawa program. His instruction focused on hitting, baserunning, and outfield play. Additionally, he was the head junior varsity coach and first base coach. Other responsibilities Saghy held included scouting reports, recruiting, field maintenance, equipment ordering, fundraising, and travel coordination. During his time with Ottawa, the team would earn the 2021 KCAC Tournament Championship and a berth in the 2021 NAIA Regional Tournament. The following year, Ottawa would claim the 2022 KCAC Regular Season Championship and a berth in the 2022 NAIA Regional Tournament. The program was ranked for the first time in school history, peaking in twelfth in 2022, while school records in wins, hits, runs, home runs, stolen bases, and walks were broken.

Saghy spent the summer of 2021 as Head Coach of the Charlotte Bandits in the Southern Shores Collegiate League. With the Bandits, Saghy was responsible for recruiting a roster exceeding 30 players and securing funding through attracting sponsorship. The Bandits would finish the regular season in second place before earning runner-up honors in Southern Shores Collegiate League Playoffs. The Bandits would earn individual accolades, including the SSCL's Pitcher of the Year, six All-Stars, and the Playoff Most Valuable Player.

Since 2016, Saghy has served as an Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Advisor for the Steel City Wildcats, a high school summer travel team in Pittsburgh, PA. During his tenure, the Wildcats developed 16 NCAA DI players, seven DII players, five DIII players, one NAIA player, and one JUCO player. Two players from the team have gone on to compete in professional baseball, both being selected in the MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Saghy earned his Master of Education degree from Ottawa University in 2022.

Saghy completed his undergraduate degree at Heidelberg University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Middle Childhood Education with social studies/language arts concentrations. During his time at Heidelberg, he was a four-year varsity baseball team member as an infielder. While at Heidelberg, the team won the 2019 OAC Regional and Super Regional Championships leading to an appearance in the 2019 NCAA DIII World Series.

Christopher expressed, "Rob possesses the knowledge, talent, and pedigree to step into our program and make a tremendous impact with our position players both offensively and defensively. Rob has been surrounded by a winning culture throughout his time as a player and as a coach, and we are very excited to bring that winning tradition to Huntingdon!"

"I am also excited to see Rob return to the Keystone State on the recruiting trail as he possesses a high-level talent for evaluating prospective student-athletes and is a great communicator with recruits and their families," Christopher continued, "We are very excited to welcome Rob to the JC Baseball family, and we are excited to get to work this fall!"
