Baseball Falls at PSU-Berks

Baseball Falls at PSU-Berks

READING, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team suffered a 9-2 setback on the road at Penn-State Berks, Wednesday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

The Lions scored on a groundout to short, and in the second, a two-run single to center made it 3-0.

A two-run blast to left put them up 5-0 through three innings.

In the top of the sixth, back-to-back doubles from Joey Allegrini (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) and Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa. / Mifflin County) gave JC runners at second third with no outs. Jake Swank (Portage, Pa. / Portage) got Allegrini home on a sac fly to center, but the next two batters were retired to end the Eagle threat.

PSU-Berks responded with another four runs in the next three innings. They scored on a fielder's choice in the sixth, a bases-loaded walk in the seventh before an RBI double in the eighth. They plated their ninth run on a fielder's choice.

Will Kinchington (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) managed to score on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth to complete the scoring.

Jack Dovidio (Glenmore, Pa. / Downingtown West) got the start on the mound, and he went two innings and allowed three hits, three runs, and two walks. Harrison Leister (Douglassville, Pa. / Daniel Boone) pitched four innings in relief for JC and allowed four hits and three runs while striking out three. Maclay went two for two with two doubles and a walk, Allegrini was 1-3 with a walk and a run scored while Michael Warren (New Berlin, Pa. / Mifflinburg Area) went 2-4 and Evan Mock (McVeytown / Mifflin County H.S.) went 2-3 with a stolen base.

Juniata has a quick turnaround as they will host Chatham tomorrow. The first pitch is at four.
