Eagles Rise Above Wildcats

HUNTINGDON, Pa.-The Juniata baseball team defeated Penn College twice, 7-4 and 8-3, on a sunny afternoon at Langdone-Goodale field.

The Wildcats scored once in the second and again in the third. Juniata put together a seven-run inning in the bottom half of the third. Chris Schreder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) reached on an infield single and got to second on a passed ball. Two batters later Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) was hit by a pitch and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Zach Tobash (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central) walked to load the bases before a Matt Innella (Commack, N.Y./Commack) single pushed Schreder across. Josh Keszczyk's (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) single scored Tobash and Kipp before Hunter Price (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) knocked in Keszacyk with a single to right center. Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) walked before a Dillon Hippensteel (Dillsburg, Pa./York Catholic) singled to center drove in two more runs. After Hippensteel and Carper successfully pulled off a double steal, Schreder singled home Carper as Juniata batted around.

Penn College scored one more run in the fourth and again in the sixth, but Juniata won 7-4.

Keszczyk went 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored while Schreder went 3-4 with a double and a run scored.

Game two started with Kipp driving in Carper with a single to left center. The Wildcats responded with three runs in the top of the third, but Josiah Lynn (Beggs, Okla./Classical Conversations Homeschool) shut them down the rest of the way as he only allowed two more hits the rest of the game.

Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa./Mifflin County HS) led off the fourth by being hit by a pitch and advanced on a passed ball. He advanced to third on a groundout before Sam Craig (Mullicahill, N.J./Kingsway Regional) sent him home via a single to center. Craig stole second and went home on a RBI-double to left center by Ryan McClain (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville).
