Men’s and women’s tennis both defeat Frostburg 7-2

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata College men’s and women’s tennis teams each defeated Frostburg State University 7-2 on Saturday afternoon in Huntingdon.

In the women’s match, Frostburg forfeited on three occasions, and Cara Stough (Friendsville, Md./Northern Garrett) won 6-1 and 6-2 over her opponent along with a win at No. 3 singles with Yana Kohler (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) winning 6-4 and 6-3. 

In doubles, Megan Phillips (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and Heather Waring (San Antonio, Texas/John Jay) dropped a close 8-6 match at No. 1 doubles, but Tori Gray (York, Pa./Central York) and Mitsuki Koh (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) battled to an 8-2 victory to help the Eagles seal a 7-2 win over the Bobcats.

The Juniata men had to work for all seven victories, as Frostburg did not forfeit in any slot. Juniata won every singles match with the exception of No. 1 singles. Justin Wisniewski (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) took his match into a third set and won 6-4 at No. 2 singles. 

Over in doubles, Juniata won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles with Wisniewski and Brice Morey (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) and 8-1 at No. 3 doubles with Michael Lifshitz (Worcester, Mass./Worchester Academy) and Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley).

The women will compete in the ITA Regional at the University of Mary Washington next weekend and the men will travel to the same tournament the weekend following.
