Men and women track & field place third in Landmark Conference Tournament

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Juniata College men’s and women’s track and field squads both captured third place with 138 points each at the 2012 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Moravian College on Sunday. 

Ceth Parker (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin) was named the Landmark Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Year for his performances that included Saturday’s first place in the 1500m and his first place 14:56.19 finish in the 5000m run that set a new Landmark Conference and Juniata College record.

Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) and Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) also broke Landmark Conference records, as they both took first in their respective events to earn first team Landmark Conference honors. Shaffer cleared the high jump at 5’ 3¾” and Woods finished the 5000m run in just 18:16.04.

Shaffer also placed third in the 110m hurdles with a 15.48 time, while senior Erika Brown (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) took second in the high jump with a 5’ 3¾” clear and fourth in the 400m hurdles with a 1:06.75 time.

Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Bedford), who turned in a Landmark Conference record-breaking discus finish on Saturday, posted a second place hammer throw with a 147’ 9” (45.03m) mark, the second best mark in Juniata history.  

Nicholas Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) (11.11) and Aaron McCoy (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) (11.15) finished third and fourth respectively in the 100m dash, while Bauer placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 42” 2¼”. Justin Herr (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) finished third in the event with a 43” 4¼”. 

In the 110m hurdles, Vinny Smith (Butler, Pa./Mars) crossed the line in second place with a time of 15.46, and Tyler Mandley (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) took gold in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.51 earning him first team Landmark Conference honors. 

Juniata’s women javelin throwers took third, fourth and fifth with Kristyn Ginter (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) leading the way with a 104’ 4” mark and Kyle Berrena (Petersburg, Pa./Juniata Valley) and Jacquelyn Barnett (Walston, Pa./Punxsutawney Area) threw for 103’ 11” and 102’ 11”, respectively. 

Alyssa Grube (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) finished the 800m run in 2:22.14 to place fifth, and Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Township) ran the 5000m in 19:11.91 to place third.
