Ashcraft, Grube, Morey, Smith named to Landmark Conference 2012 Spring All-Academic Team

Ashcraft, Grube, Morey, Smith named to Landmark Conference 2012 Spring All-Academic Team

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Four Juniata College student-athletes were among those named to the Landmark Conference 2012 Spring All-Academic Team, which was announced Thursday.

Juniata’s Spring 2012 All-Academic team selections are Jennifer Ashcraft (Bellefonte, Pa./State College Area), Alyssa Grube (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), Brice Morey (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro), and Vincent Smith (Butler, Pa./Mars).

Ashcraft hit .238 in her junior year and belted her first career home run and delivered the game-winning hit in Juniata’s Landmark win over Drew University. She is working towards a degree in education with a minor in fine arts, while being very active in community outreach. She spent time building houses in Mississippi for Hurricane Katrina relief, works in Juniata’s Early Childhood Education Center, and earned the Girls Scout Gold Award in 2009.

Grube, a biology major with a minor in Spanish, currently holds two top-five all-time Juniata outdoor track & field performances. The sophomore had a pair of top-5 finishes at the Landmark Outdoor Championships in the 800 and 1,500. She spent six weeks at a public health clinic in Orizaba, Mexico and will be conducting research in microbiology and immunology at University of North Carolina this summer.

Morey was the top performer for the Juniata men’s tennis team in his junior campaign. He was voted the team MVP with a mark of 8-7 in singles play including three singles triumphs in Landmark Conference matches. He is a biology major and a member of Mission Chair of Colleges Against Cancer, Habitat for Humanity, Biology Honors Society and Student Alumni Association.

Smith posted two personal bests during the 2012 men’s track and field outdoor season, in the 200-meter dash and 110-meter hurdles, and earned second-team All-Conference honors by placing second in the 110 hurdles. He is studying marketing and entrepreneurship, is the founder of a student business and earned the President selected Endowed Merit Award in Business Administration.

Two male and two female student-athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions are selected for the Landmark Conference All-Academic Team, which honors athletes who have excelled academically and athletically.  Nominees may come from any of the Landmark spring sports, and must have sophomore standing or higher with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better.
