Eagles Sweep Greyhounds, Move to 5-0 in the Landmark

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's volleyball team opened the final weekend of the regular season with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-22) win over visiting Moravian Saturday morning. 

Early in the opening set with the score at 4-3, the Eagles jumped ahead with an 8-0 run. Morgan Edwards (Lancaster, Pa. / Penn Manor) and Marie Gonsar (New Castle, Pa. / Shenango H.S.) started things off with a kill apiece, Makenna Hallager (Glenolden, Pa. / Merion Mercy Academy) added an ace and Dejia Danhi (Ashburn, Va. / Stone Bridge) and Emma Davis (East Berlin, Pa / Dover Area HS) combined for a block. Gonsar provided another kill, Hallager served up her second ace and Danhi and Davis teamed up for another kill. Hallager came through with her third ace of the run and Danhi tacked on a kill to make it 11-4. The Greyhounds climbed back within two, 12-10, but the Eagles answered with 10-0 that essentially sealed the set. With the score at 24-12, a service error ended set one, 25-12. 

The second set saw the Eagles slowly pull ahead through the set. With the score at 15-12, back to back kills from Edwards and Aly Reardon (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West HS) forced a Greyhound timeout. Back to back errors from the visitors made it 19-12 Juniata and they cruised the rest of the way. With the score at 24-18, a kill from Davis ended the second set, 25-18. 

The Greyhounds came out strong in the third as they led most of the way. With the score at 15-17, the Eagles got a kill from Edwards, an ace from Gonsar, a Greyhound attack error and a kill from Grace Erskine (Mooresville, N.C. / Community School of Davidson) to retake the lead 19-17. Following a block by Moravian, two errors and a kill from Edwards put Juniata ahead by four, 22-18. The teams traded points, with a kill from Reardon giving the Eagles match point, 24-20. The Greyhounds took the next two points before a kill from Danhi ended the match, 25-22.
