SCRANTON, Pa.- The Juniata women's volleyball team swept aside Catholic in their first conference match of the day, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-23) Saturday afternoon at the John Long Center.

The Eagles built up six-point lead midway through the set, 20-14, but the Cardinals didn't fold as they took the next seven straight to go up one. A kill from Dejia Danhi (Ashburn, Va. / Stone Bridge) along with a Cardinal attack error handed the lead back to the Eagles. Catholic tied things up with a kill of their own, but Juniata closed the set from there. Morgan Edwards (Lancaster, Pa. / Penn Manor) notched a kill, Emma Davis (East Berlin, Pa / Dover Area HS) got a solo block before Marie Gonsar (New Castle, Pa. / Shenango H.S.) ended the set with a kill of her own.

The second set was tight as Juniata never led by more than four. The Cardinals pulled within one several times late, taking two straight points to make it 22-21, but they got no closer. A kill from Edwards, a block from Davis and Gonsar gave JC set point and Makenna Hallager (Glenolden, Pa. / Merion Mercy Academy) ended the second set with a service ace.

The Cardinals tried to extend the match as they took the lead several times in the third set, eventually holding a one-point lead at 21-22. But as they did all match Juniata closed effectively taking four of the final five points to end the match. Moira Folan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic HS) tallied a kill, Victoria Taylor (Middletown, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) added one of her own to put the Eagles at match point before Catholic tallied a kill to keep the match going, but Taylor ended the match with her 13th kill.
