Eagles Sweep Conference Awards, Six Named to All-Conference Team

TOWSON, Md.- The Juniata women's volleyball team swept this year's Landmark Conference awards. The team also had six players named to the All-Conference team.

Marybeth Weihbrecht (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) has been named Landmark Player of the Year while teammate, Katie Byrne (Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) was named Specialist of the Year and Moira Folan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic HS) was named Rookie of the Year. Head coach, Heather Pavlik was named Coach of the Year for the fifth time. Victoria Taylor (Middletown, Del. / Delaware Military Academy), Morgan Edwards (Lancaster, Pa. / Penn Manor), Alyssa Tavera (Whittier, Calif. / La Salle H.S.), Dejia Danhi (Ashburn, Va. / Stone Bridge), Weihbrecht,  and Byrne were all named to the Landmark All-Conference team. 

Edwards, Taylor, Weihbrecht, Tavera, and Byrne were named to the first team while Danhi was named to the second team. 

Weihbrecht keeps the streak alive, as an Eagle has earned Player of the Year honors since becoming affiliated with the Landmark in 2007. This is also the third time that Juniata women's volleyball has swept the Landmark Conference awards. 

Two-time Player of the Year and Landmark All-Conference First Team honoree, Weihbrecht has appeared in 25 matches and has played in 76 sets this season. She led the Landmark and ranks third in Division III volleyball with a .420 hitting percentage. Weihbrecht has also named Landmark Athlete of the Week two times this season (9/17, 10/1). This season, she has tallied 204 kills and 61 total blocks (14 BS, 47 BA). 

Three-time All-Landmark First Team selection, Byrne earns her second Specialist of the Year award. She appeared in 27 matches and has played in 94 sets this season. Byrne totaled 399 digs and averages 4.24 digs per sets which is third in the Landmark. Earlier this season, in the Eagles sweep against Randolph-Macon, Byrne surpassed 2,000 career digs. She is the fifth person in program history to do so. 

Folan has appeared in 27 matches and 87 sets. She's hitting .289 and has a total of 489 assists this season which ranks her seventh in the Landmark. 

Two-time Landmark All-Conference teamer, Taylor has appeared in 27 matches and 92 sets. Taylor has tallied 288 kills while hitting .255. Taylor is also fifth in the Landmark with 3.13 kills per set. Taylor has also totaled 61 digs and 38 total blocks (6 BS, 32 BA). 

Two-time Landmark All-Conference teamer, Edwards has appeared in 26 matches and 89 sets. She has totaled 232 kills (2.61 kills per set), 40 digs, and 63 total blocks (7 BS, 56 BA). Edwards was named the Landmark Championship MVP after the Eagles swept Susquehanna in the Landmark Championship. 

Two-time Landmark All-Conference teamer, Tavera has appeared in 26 matches and 79 sets. Tavera has recorded 449 assists, 19 service aces, and 183 digs. 

Dahni was named to the All-Conference second team as middle hitter. She has appeared in 26 matches and 89 sets. Danhi was named Landmark Athlete of the Week earlier this season (9/10). Danhi has totaled 176 kills while hitting .318. She has 108 total blocks (22 BS, 86 BA) and 46 digs. 

Juniata will host the NCAA Regionals this weekend. The Eagles are set to play Notre Dame (Md.) in the opening round at 8:00 PM, Friday.
