Swimming Starts Off New Year at California University of PA Invite

CALIFORNIA, Pa.- The Juniata swim team's started off the new year at the California University of PA invitational. After day one Juniata sits in third place with 145 points.

The meet started off with the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Emily Angeline (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East), Meghan Brubaker (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg), Alex Fontes (Plymouth, Mass. / Sturgis), and Danielle Ochs (Huntingdon, Pa. / Juniata Valley) finished in sixth place coming in with a time of 2:06.96. In the next event, Brubaker took sixth place in the 200 IM (2:41.32). Angeline finished in seventh place in the 500 free coming in with a time of 6:31.13. Fontes had a strong finish in the 100 breastroke (1:20.48) finishing three seconds behind fourth place. 

Brubaker finished in the middle of the pack in the 100 freestyle coming in with a time of 1:02.81. In the 200 butterfly, Fontes took second place (2:24.72). In the final event of the night, the 400 medley relay team of Angeline, Brubaker, Fontes, and Ochs came in with a time of 5:26.29. 

Day two of the California Invite will continue tomorrow, Saturday January 20th starting at 1PM.
