Relays Pace Eagles on Day One of Cal U Invite

THE HEADLINE: Juniata's women's swimming was back in the water for the first time in 2017 at the California University Invite with Lock Haven University.

TOP INDIVIDUAL FINISHERS: Emily Angeline (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) finished seventh out of ten contestants in the 500-yard freestyle. She hit the wall at 6:14.93, about a minute after the first place finisher. Kerry McClaughry (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) finished about four seconds after Angeline and took eighth place.

Krista Peachey (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) took sixth in the 200-yard backstroke, as she finished at 2:37.81.

RELAYS: The meet began with the 200-freestyle relay. Juniata had two relay teams competing in the event. Peachey, Jocelyn Skelly (Hershey, Pa./Hershey), Emily Stahl (State College, Pa./State College Area) and McClaughry finished sixth out of the eight teams competing. They finished with a time of 1:56.32, 13 seconds behind the first place finishers. 

The last event of day one was the 400-yard medley relay. The Eagles' first relay team finished in third place. Peachey, McClaughry, Skelly and Stahl earned 32 points for JC with their 4:47.24 time. In fifth, Elise Kury (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), Nadia Moss (Narragansett, R.I./St. Margaret's School, Va.), Meghan Brubaker (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Angeline recorded a time of 5:26.21.
