HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's soccer team fell, 6-0 to Catholic in Landmark Conference play, Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.
The Cardinals scored three goals in the first half as they outshot Juniata 13-3 to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. In the 24th minute, the Eagles took two consecutive shots by Brooke Rotheram (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East) and then by Emma Moreland (Lebanon, Pa. / Cedar Crest) but they were both blocked by Cardinal defenders. In the 27th minute, Meadow Walshaw-Wertz (Sunbury, Pa. / Line Mountain) came down the field open from the middle but her shot went wide.
In the second half, Catholic tallied two more goals in the 51st and 59th minutes to lead, 5-0. After a corner kick in the 75th minute, Walshaw-Wertz headed the ball towards the goal but the ball went high. A minute later, Catholic scored their final goal of the game to defeat the Eagles, 6-0.
Cati Besch (Bellefonte, Pa. / Bellefonte Area HS) made eight saves in goal for the Eagles.
Juniata will host Penn College this Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
