HAVERFORD, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team fell 2-1 in double overtime to Haverford, Wednesday evening.
Haverford got on the board first with 20 seconds left in the first quarter. The second and third quarters were scoreless as Haverford led 6-2 in shots. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles got on the board to tie up the game. Catherine Lanigan (Parsippany, N.J. / Parsippany HS) carried the ball down the field from the 25, to tie the game, 1-1 forcing the overtime.
Haverford controlled the overtime taking four shots to Juniata's one. Both teams were unsuccessful in taking the ball to the goal therefore forcing a second overtime. Four minutes into the second overtime, Haverford took a penalty corner then seconds later Haverford was awarded a penalty stroke to give Haverford the 2-1 win.
Nicole Piccioni (Richfield, Pa. / Midd-West) made eight saves in goal for the Eagles.
Juniata will host DeSales this Saturday, September, 21st at 1:00 pm.
