Field Hockey Drops First Game of the Season at Alvernia

READING, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision at Alvernia.

The teams went scoreless in the first two quarters of the game. Catherine Lanigan (Parsippany, N.J. / Parsippany HS) opened up the shooting for the Eagles in the second quarter but her shot was saved by the goalie. The Eagles added two more shots in the third quarter from Grace Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg). Two minutes into the third quarter Alvernia scored their first goal of the game. Ten minutes later, after a penalty corner, Alvernia scored their second and final goal of the game. Juniata tried to get things back in the fourth quarter by out shooting Alvernia 4-2 but they were unsuccessful resulting in a 2-0 loss. 

Nicole Piccioni (Richfield, Pa. / Midd-West) totaled four saves in goal. 

Juniata and Alvernia both tallied eight shots each. The Eagles held an 8-2 edge in corners over the Golden Wolves.
