Eagles Fall on the Road at Dickinson

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata football team lost on the road at Dickinson, 51-21, Saturday afternoon at Biddle Field.

The Red Devils scored the only touchdown in the opening quarter on a 19-yard TD pass to take a 7-0 lead after one.

50 seconds into the second quarter they struck again to double their lead and with four minutes to go in the half, they added one more passing touchdown as the Eagles were in a 21-0 hole it appeared.

Starting from their own 26, a personal foul and an eight-yard run from Tyler Clark (Mifflintown, Pa. / Juniata HS) got the ball to the 50. On third and two Clark found Sean Owens (Schwenksville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley HS) for a 32-yard gain all the way down to the Red Devil 18. Two plays later Clark found Clay Spencer (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin H.S.) for a 17-yard touchdown to get the Eagles on the board.

Dickinson took over with 1:24 left and quickly got moving. They drove 69 yards on just five players, as their quarterback threw a 22-yard touchdown pass, his fourth of the half, to make it 28-7.

The Red Devils kicked off with 23 seconds to go in the half, probably thinking they were going to go in the half up 21. But Marson Weh (Upper Darby, Pa. / Upper Darby H.S.) had other ideas as he ran the kickoff back 93 yards for six to slice the deficit to 14 heading into halftime.

Dickinson got the ball to start the third, and they made sure to use it as they went 55 yards on eight plays, culminating in a five-yard rushing TD to make it 35-14.

The teams traded three and outs, and the Eagles got the ball on their own seven. Clark found Shaheed Ross (Philadelphia, Pa. / Delaware Valley Charter HS) for 12 yards and a first down to get the Eagles out of the shadow of their own end zone. But two plays later the Red Devils intercepted the ball at their 39-yard line.

The Dickinson offense ate up over five minutes of the clock as they went 60 yards and scored another touchdown to make it 42-14.

Another strong Weh return gave the Eagles good field position as they started at the 50. Fletcher Hart toted the ball 16 yards to the Red Devil 34. Clark's nine-yard gain on third and seven ended the quarter with a first down for the Eagles. Hart ran the ball 14 yards down to the six, but a holding penalty moved the ball back 10 yards on the ensuing play. Calvin Bembry II (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) got it all back with a 15-yard run down to the one. Two plays later Clark found Ben Lauver (Mifflintown, Pa. / Juniata H.S.) for six to make it 42-21. Those were the last points the Eagles scored.

Juniata will play at Johns Hopkins, next Saturday at 12:00.
