Cunnane’s Grand Slam Sparks Game One Win as Juniata Splits with Penn St.-Altoona

Game 1: Juniata 9, Penn St.-Altoona 3

A six-run first inning powered the Juniata College baseball team to a 9–3 victory over Penn St.-Altoona in the opening game of Thursday's doubleheader at Langdon-Goodale Field.

The Eagles pounced early, highlighted by Jackson Cunnane's grand slam to left, part of a four-RBI game for the designated hitter. Juniata sent 10 batters to the plate in the first, with Jace Irvin and Charlie Bakken also collecting RBIs to open a 6–0 lead.

After Altoona got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the second, Juniata added insurance in the third with a run-scoring single by Jordan Chui and in the sixth on RBI contributions from Johnston and Scott.

Chui finished 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Scott went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Cunnane's homer was his third of the season.

On the mound, Connor Blough earned the win with four innings of four-hit ball, allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out three. Devon Coldren and Landen Eichhorn combined for three innings of solid relief, each allowing one run.

Game 2: Penn St.-Altoona 2, Juniata 1 (8 innings)

The Lions edged the Eagles in extra innings in game two, breaking a 1–1 tie in the top of the eighth on a two-out RBI single.

Juniata tied the game in the bottom of the first when Ricky Scott doubled home Johnston, but the bats were quiet from there despite six total hits. The Eagles left 11 runners on base and struck out seven times.

Robbie Pliszka took the loss in relief, allowing one run over two innings with four strikeouts. Starter Connor Krahulec gave up one run over 3.2 innings, and Derek Brynildsen struck out three in a scoreless eighth.

Juniata returns to the diamond tomorrow to finish a game against Lycoming that was paused due to rain.
