Eagles Outlast Lynx

Isaac Maclay

AUBURNDALE, Fla.- The Juniata baseball team picked up another win as they won 8-4 over Lesley, Tuesday morning.

For the third time in four games, the Eagles got on the board in the first inning. Jake Swank (Portage, Pa. / Portage) smacked a one-out double to left, Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa. / Northeastern) drew a walk, and Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa. / Mifflin County High School) smashed his third homer of the year to left to put the Eagles up 3-0 after one.

The Lynx scored twice in the top of the third on an error and an RBI-single to narrow the JC lead to one. In the top of the fifth, the Lynx pulled even, but the Eagles would regain the lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Kipp reached on an error, and two batters later, Michael Warren (New Berlin, Pa. / Mifflinburg Area) walked. Matt Innella (Commack, N.Y. / Commack) singled to center to send Kipp home, Innella stole second, and Joshua Gery (Pottstown, Pa. / Pottstown Senior High School) cleared the bases with a double to left to put JC back up by three.

A solo shot to center cut the deficit to two, but that was the final run they Lynx scored.

Warren's two-run single to left gave the Eagles a bit of a cushion in the final innings that they wound up not needing as they shut the Lynx out in eighth and ninth.

Julius Thomas (Johnstown, Pa. / Ferndale Area High School) picked up the win for the Eagles, pitching two innings in relief while allowing a walk and a run along with two strikeouts. Dominic Hoyle (Woodbridge, Va. / Garfield) got the save, pitching the final two innings and allowing no hits to go with a strikeout.

The Eagles are off tomorrow before they take on Loras, Thursday, at 1:15.
