Juniata Women Place 20th in NCAA Regionals

Center Valley, Pa. - Of 51 participating schools, Juniata placed 20th overall in the NCAA Mid-East Regionals Saturday, Nov. 12, at DeSales University. As the top two teams qualify for Nationals, the Eagles' 2016 season came to a close.

The first to finish for the Eagles was sophomore Yanibel Collado (Freeport, N.Y./Milton Hershey, Pa.). She recorded a time of 23:44 and placed 70th overall. Collado missed her personal best time, set at the 2015 Lock Haven Invitational, by just seconds.

Next for Juniata, in 107th and 123rd, was Allyson Kopera (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) and Claudia Sacks (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic). Kopera finished at 24:26 with Sacks about ten seconds behind her at 24:38.

Meaghen Stewart (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area), Azia Kalil (Methuen, Mass./Methuen), Chelsea Chizmar (Johnstown, Pa./Forest Hills) and Rebecca Herwig (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) rounded out the Juniata competitors. Chizmar, the only senior on the women's cross country team, recorded a time of 25:57 for her last cross country race. Her personal best was set at the Lock Haven Invitational, 24:59.2. 

Johns Hopkins and Dickinson qualified, as they placed in the top two. Two Moravian runners will also represent the Landmark Conference in the NCAA Nationals.
