HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Juniata College cross country had a record day at the Lock Haven Cross Country Invitational Saturday. Senior Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) broke the women's Landmark Conference and program record in the 6K and senior Nate Alter (Pittsburg, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) broke the men's 8K program record running the fastest Landmark time this season at the distance.
Woods shaved over 1:30 off her previous season best time to finished third overall out of 231 runners. This is her first time cracking the top three of a race this season and third in the top five. Her time of 21:44.20 beat the 2009 Landmark record set Susquehanna's Casey Hess at the NCAA Mid-East Regional by 8.9 seconds. It also crushed her previous personal best by over a minute. She is only the second Landmark runner to break 22:00 in the 6K.
Juniata had three runners finish in the top half. Along with Woods, was sophomore Jecenia Duran (Temple, pa./Central York) and senior Courtney Peterson (York, Pa./Central York). Both ran career-best times at the invite. Duran finished 92 in a time of 24:34.0, nearly a minute faster than the previous best she set earlier this season at the Catholic Invitational.
Peterson was the 102 runner across. She recording a time of 24:55.2, over 1:50 faster than previous season best, and 45 seconds better than her previous career-best mark.
As a team, the women placed 12th. Juniata continues its season on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Father Bede Invitational hosted by Saint Francis University.
