Eagles Sweep Bearcats

Victoria Taylor

HUNTINGDONDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's volleyball team swept aside Saint Vincent, 3-0 (25-16, 25-6, 25-11), Saturday morning in Memorial Gymnasium.

The opening set was the closest of the match, with the Bearcats hanging within three and eventually closing the gap, making it 16-15 with a kill. Juniata ramped it up from there, closing the set on a 9-1 run to win. Victoria Taylor (Middletown, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) had three kills during the run, Moira Folan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic HS) notched back to back aces, Emma Davis (East Berlin, Pa / Dover Area HS) tallied a kill, while Brianne Carmody (Midlothian, Va. / James River) and Dejia Danhi (Ashburn, Va. / Stone Bridge) combined for a block to send JC to set point. The Eagles won on a bad set from the visitors.

The second set was one of the more dominant sets the Eagles put together so far this season. They opened by scoring 14 of the first 16 points and just kept coming. With the score at 23-6, an ace from McKenna Walker (York, Pa. / York Catholic) pushed JC to set point and a kill from Lauren Levi (Oregon City, Ore. / Oregon City HS) ended the set.

The Eagles led 6-3 early in the third set and slowly continued to add to their lead. A kill from Grace Erskine (Mooresville, N.C. / Community School of Davidson) made it 15-6, and the Eagles continued to cruise as a bad set from the Bearcats handed the hosts match point, 24-10. St. Vincent took the next point before a block from Davis and Folan ended the match, 25-11.
