Women's Volleyball Ranked 3rd in AVCA Poll

LEXINGTON, Ky.- The Juniata women's volleyball team is ranked 3rd in this week's AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll after being ranked 3rd in the AVCA preseason poll.

Over the weekend, the Eagles traveled to Christopher Newport to compete in the Captains Classic. Juniata went 2-1 after facing ranked Christopher Newport and Wisconsin-Eau Claire. On Friday, Juniata opened up their season against No. 14 Christopher Newport. The Eagles fell 3-2. Marie Gonsar (New Castle, Pa. / Shenango H.S.) amassed 13 kills, three aces, 16 digs, and two block assists while Morgan Edwards (Lancaster, Pa. / Penn Manor) added 14 kills and a block assist. On Saturday, the Eagles defeated No. 4 Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 3-0 and Marymount (Va.), 3-1. Against Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Gonsar totaled 12 kills, 10 digs while hitting .345 and Emma Davis (East Berlin, Pa / Dover Area HS) tallied six kills and two blocks while hitting .333. Against Marymount (Va.), Kailyn Pyle (Reading, Pa. / Liberty HS) totaled eight kills, four solo blocks, and three block assists while hitting .353. 

Gonsar and Davis were named to the Captains Classic All-Tournament team. 

The Eagles will host Ithaca, Swarthmore, and Carnegie Mellon this weekend for the ASICS Tournament. The Eagles first match will begin at 7:30pm, Friday.
